Don’t miss an engaging talk about pumas and conservation at Stone Zoo!

WHEN: July 17, 1:00 p.m.

Stone Zoo Animal Discovery Center Stone Zoo is pleased to welcome Zara McDonald, Founder and Executive Director of Felidae Conservation Fund, who will speak about pumas and conservation. The talk will be about San Francisco Bay Area pumas and the work currently underway to study and protect them. These keystone predators (also called mountain lions) play a critical role in maintaining the health and biodiversity of their ecosystems. However, expansion of human populations is causing increasing encounters and conflicts between humans and pumas, and growing tensions in local communities. The program will provide a compelling view of the natural grace and beauty of these animals and will delve into the biological and ecological science that is working for their preservation.

This talk is FREE with paid Zoo admission. For more information visit www.stonezoo.org.

Sign up for ZooCamp this summer and let the adventure begin!

Are your kids looking for a wild adventure this summer? Sign them up for ZooCamp and they will immerse themselves in a memorable learning experience all while having fun and making new friends. In collaboration with Zoo New England, Camp Fire USA has been offering a day camp at Franklin Park Zoo for more than 16 years!

At ZooCamp, children ages 6-11 experience a unique environmental camp on the Zoo grounds that allow campers to go behind-the-scenes and explore the natural world of animals. Participants are provided with a variety of educational, fun, and quality experiences, and are given an opportunity to fully discover and examine elements of nature, zoo animals, their habitats and lifestyles. Participants meet zookeepers and learn about the specific needs of zoo animals. All activities are aligned with state learning standards, so children get a jump start on classes for the fall. As part of their discovery, youth participants create wildlife journals and document their observations of animal and bird activity in Birds’ World, the Tropical Forest, Outback Trail, African Savannah and Butterfly Garden.

Sessions run from the end of June to mid-August at Franklin Park Zoo. The camp day runs from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with before care and after care available for an additional fee. This summer, Camp Fire will again be conducting a week of ZooCamp at Stone Zoo for ages 6 – 10. This year the dates are August 16 – 20. There will also be a special “Junior Zookeeping” session for 12 – 13 year olds at Franklin Park Zoo from July 5 – 16.

For information and to register visit www.campfireusa-emass.org or call Camp Fire USA at 617-745-4150.
