Celebrate Mother’s Day at Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo

Upcoming Bottle & Can Drives at Stone Zoo

If you are interested in not only helping the environment but contributing to a worthy cause, bring your empty bottles and cans to Stone Zoo during the Bottle and Can Drive – held the second Saturday of each month through October.

All of the proceeds from this annual fundraiser benefit conservation efforts supported by Zoo New England, the non-profit organization that manages Stone Zoo and Franklin Park Zoo.

This year’s Bottle and Can Drive will be held:

July 10
August 14
September 11
October 9

Enter Stone Zoo’s Endangered Species Day coloring contest!

In honor of Endangered Species Day, we’re inviting kids to enter the Endangered Species Day Coloring Contest at Stone Zoo! Do you know Stone Zoo is home to a number of endangered species including jaguars, Mexican gray wolves, Panamanian golden frogs, hyacinth macaws and others? Draw a picture of your favorite endangered species or write a message about the animal. We’ll accept entries through May 15. The winners of each age group will receive a certificate of recognition and the honor of having their artwork framed and displayed in the Animal Discovery Center! Who can enter?
Kids ages 3-10
Pictures will be judged in three age categories: ages 3-4, ages 5-7, and ages 8-10

The Rules
• Pictures must be on standard 8 1/2 x 11 inch (letter size) paper.
• Pictures may be done in pencil, crayon or marker – NO chalk, paint, glue or computer illustrations please.
• Picture must include your favorite endangered species or a message about Endangered Species Day.
• Entries will be accepted in the Stone Zoo Animal Discovery Center no later than 4:00 p.m. on May 15, 2010. Entry forms are available in the Animal Discovery Center.
• One entry per person.

Exciting Addition to Franklin Park Zoo’s Earth Day Celebration on Sunday, 4/18!

Olympian Gary Morgan and Kelly Flathers, an elite runner who has represented the United States at the Pan American Games, will present a story time in the main tent from 11:00 a.m. – noon. Guests will also have the opportunity to speak with and ask questions of the athletes during this time. Gary and Kelly are both runners in this year’s Boston Marathon. They are joining us through Athletes for Hope, a nonprofit organization created to educate, encourage and assist athletes in their efforts to contribute to community and charitable causes, to increase public awareness of those efforts, and to inspire others to do the same.

April School Vacation Program at Franklin Park Zoo!

From Ants to Zebras!

Join us for an exciting week of discovery during April school vacation week at Franklin Park Zoo!

Once again Franklin Park Zoo is running April vacation programming! Each day will run from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 20 through Friday, April 23 and will consist of animal encounters, arts and crafts, games, behind-the-scenes tours, and other fun, educational activities to keep your children engaged, even while school is out. This year’s spring break theme is Biodiversity: Ants to Zebras! Your child will be able to investigate the wide range of animals and plants that live on Earth while exploring the Zoo! Franklin Park Zoo’s Spring Break is for children ages 6-11.

Prices:

Members: $150

Non-Members: $175

Have You Seen the Barn Owl Chick at Franklin Park Zoo?

Be sure to visit the chick, who hatched February 18, in the Brooder Barn in Franklin Farm! Fun fact: Barn owls acquire adult-like plumage 10-12 weeks after hatching.
